A couple of weeks ago, I posted 10 Traits of a Successful Volunteer. Item 7 was: Make judicious donations of your product or service.

Last week, I gave a presentation at the South Florida Chapter of NACE on Facebook & LinkedIn for Business, a new venue, So Cool. The event (seminar and meeting) was an outstanding example of the convergence of many excellent donations to showcase products and services.

The venue is a warehouse-style space (blank canvas), ready for an event designer to make their magic. It does have one MAJOR built-in feature. The owner’s have converted a large, existing walk-in freezer, into an Ice Bar.

When you walk into the Ice Bar foyer, there are racks of parkas and piles of special shoes to minimize the chill in the next room.

Don the warm gear, and enter the Ice Bar. It right out of the recent James Bond movie, Die Another Day.

OK, so that’s the COOL part. The added value, completing the meeting, was the use of the entire space. AFR (American Furniture Rentals) added highly modern furniture to create multiple seating areas.

The seminar seating consisted of clear, lucite chairs. My presentation lectern was also clear, lucite.

A tasty Chinese buffet, served by Eggwhites Catering, was supplemented by local favorites: Cafe A La Carte and Crepemakers.

Cafe A La Carte was strategically situated, just outside the Ice Bar entry. Nothing like a piping hot cappuccino after a few minutes of chill.

In the far corner of the room, Crepemakers had a line, 10+ deep, whipping up fresh crepes, on the fly.

Jimmy Jam Productions, providing the Audio Visual support for the seminar and music for the meeting. They ‘flew’ the projector screen from a truss apparatus.

There were donated centerpieces from Tropical Elegance, complimentary headshot photos from Hassil Photography, and many other small touches to round out the meeting. The combination made for a highly active and interesting event space and meeting, with EVERY company that donated, being showcased effectively.

For me, the fun thing was posting a photo of me on Facebook, in the Ice Bar, decked out in my Parka. It immediately attracted a flurry of inquiries from all over, asking: “Where are you?”

You can see a slew of photos from the event, taken by Hassil Photography. Click on the link for NACE Membership Drive – 10/20/09.

Thanks again to South Florida NACE for showing how it’s done.
