Really?! I wasn't aware of that...wow. I loved them.

Well, The Knot is definitely a great source for information. Hmmm, that's too bad...I will miss them. Thanks for the heads up,

I don't know that local markets are that bad in PA. I have a profile on the PA section of <a href="http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/event_venues_wedding_sites.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/event_venues_wedding_sites.html</a> and I get a fair amount of business through it.

But I am a wedding venue, which may mean people are more willing to travel to get to it (as opposed to wedding dress shops or bakeries, etc). It is something to think about.

So who's got it right? And who's advice do you take to know? My personal analytics show print (for me) to be a poor return on investment - but that has a lot to do with my market segment.

Having live bands for weddings, my potential market is 10% of weddings at best AND in a targeted local area. By contrast most every bride needs a gown & a designer or national bridal store chain can be effective advertising in a broad geographic area.

TheKnot's magazine for example, while very well done - encompasses the entire state of Pennsylvania - that dilutes the value in addressing a local market as PA's major cities are 6 hours from one another thus most of the circulation is NOT my potential client.

I'd bet, though the situation is exaggerated for me, that many local businesses to a varying extent would come to the same conclusion.

Happy Holidays to all - john
