It’s time for the annual migration of mobile disc jockeys to Las Vegas for the Mobile Beat conference. This year there are two added benefits.
- The conference is adjacent to Super Bowl Sunday. A fair amount of attendees have elected to arrive early and participate in ‘big game’ parties in Sin City.
- The weather in the North East is decidedly lousy, and assuming these folks can actually get on their plane flights, they’ll be enjoying moderate weather in Las Vegas.
Three Seminars:
I’ll be giving two seminars, included in the conference. Also, one pre-conference seminar on Monday. A special 3-hour seminar on blogging, Monday afternoon, from 1:30 – 4:30pm.
Staying at the Riviera:
Although I reside in Las Vegas, for the second consecutive year, I’m staying at the host hotel, The Riviera. That may seem odd to you, but I think there are vital reasons for staying at the host property, even in one’s own home town.
- Time: Staying at another hotel creates unnecessary commute travel time and expense.
- The ‘Hanging Around Factor’: Some of the best networking opportunities occur, spontaneously. Business deals and idea-swapping sessions often take place in the hall or at a hotel coffee shop. If you’re not hanging around, you miss these random situations.
- Planned appointments: Even in this digital age of email, Facebook, and the like, sometimes you just need to sit down, face to face. These meetings shouldn’t take place in a public place. They should take place, quietly, up the elevator, in the privacy of a hotel room.

I can’t wait! I’ll be performing too on Monday night at the Soul Train party. CEO of FUN doing a tribute to James Brown!
Boy, I would love to hang around with the DJ’s and learn a thing or two (during the sessions and for the fun stuff too) because I can speak the truth that the “staying around factor” you speak of is where the best networking can happen!
Can’t wait to hear about what was presented, what new concepts you had to share in your presentations & what YOUR top “take-away” moments.
Hey Andy, I gave you a little blurb in my day 2 recap of the MBLV 2010 in my blog, feel free to check it out blog.simplicitydj.com
See you tomorrow.
Andy I attended your seminar on Bridal Shows and must say as a produce of bridal events for over 15 years I agree with what you had to say about chairs. I find that when i talk to vendors after a show. the vendors with chairs “for the most part” seem to not do as well as like business. now I don’t think it the chairs fault. I think it the mindset of the person who request a chair. (this dose not include those who need it for medical reasons).
If you go in full of excitement and passion for your business and are looking forward to sharing your passion with brides and grooms on what they can do to make there wedding day even more Elegant, Memorable or dare i say it Unforgettable your passion may just intoxicate them. on the contrary if you go in with the attitude of only 4 hours to go the bride will see that as well.
This not only goes for you sitting in your booth but the look of your booth, the way you dress, and the passion you promote yourself before and after the event.
Thanks for the listen.
