One of the great flexibilities of the Wedding MBA Conference is that while based at the Las Vegas Convention Center, it is not tied to a particular hotel.
In bringing Wedding MBA to Las Vegas, last year, and continuing in 2010, he elected to take advantage of the ongoing glut of hotel room inventory. Since last September, Las Vegas has added almost 10,000 new hotel rooms.
As well, the strategy acknowledges that, in a city such as Las Vegas, attendees like to go their own way in the evening. The choose restaurants, nightclubs, and shows, with new friends or colleagues of their own choosing.
If there were a host hotel, it would be the Las Vegas Hilton, which is adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center. Despite the fact that I live in Las Vegas, I have elected to take a room at the Las Vegas Hilton. For me, the advantage is tightening up the logistics of the conference: no commute, longer sleep, ease of meeting with clients away from the conference, and more.
Rooms at the Las Vegas Hilton are available for $46/night and up. Of course, there upgrades and more plush choices, but this is an incredible value.
On an even tighter budget? You can stay just a 3-block walk from the Convention Center, at the Rivera Hotel. Rooms, there, start at a whopping $30/night. Under $100, for three nights.
There are other hotels along the Las Vegas Monorail line (with stops at the Convention Center and the Hilton). And, indeed, the higher end Las Vegas hotels have wonderful mid-week rates in the $100-150 range.
My recommendation: Stay close by, and stay an extra day or two (in advance, or after WMBA). Arrive on Sunday, and enjoy a day on your own or with friends.
There is a lot to do in Las Vegas, and the conference days are long and intensive. You’ll be fresher and more relaxed if you arrive a day ahead, enjoy the city and balance the luxury and proximity to the Wedding MBA.
