8 ways to generate more business in 2008 The Wedding Marketing Fallout of ‘One Bad Apple’
Jan 05

Rock’n’ RollThis is a story about awareness and connecting the dots. Little things such as reading the paper, watching the news, and listening to your prospects can be very important in wedding marketing. Sharing interesting tidbits with people you know, makes you good company, and occasionally has other benefits. Read on…

Dot #1: My girl friend, Jessica, is a professional singer and vocal coach. Her singing students range from 7 to 60 years in age; from casual to karaoke addicts to aspiring professionals.

One of her students, 15-year old Michelle Blanchard is a guitar prodigy and is studying vocals with Jessica to prepare for a recording session, this coming week in New York.

This past Wednesday, I picked up the USA Today and read an article about a Rock’n'Roll Fantasy Camp, held, here in Las Vegas. Wasn’t I pleasantly surprised to see Michelle’s photo with the article. Naturally, Jessica was thrilled to see it and called the Blanchards to make sure they had seen it.

Dot #2: Later that day, I had dinner with my friends, Pat & Jodi Harris, owners of Sight’n'Sound Events (DJ, Video & Photography Services). As we were leaving the restaurant, I saw a copy of USA Today on the counter. I stopped for moment, showed the article and photo to Pat & Jodi.

Dot #3: Thursday, the very next day, Jodi had an appointment with a young lady named Anita and her dad to discuss music for her wedding at Anthem Country Club.

They discussed all the usual important elements of wedding music and entertainment, but there was something else. Just in making casual conversation to find out more about the young lady, and her family, Anita casually mentioned that “her mom was accompanying her younger sister on a trip, next week, so she could record an album, and become a rock star.”

Jodi flashed on the article, and asked, “There wouldn’t happen to be someone named Jessica involved in your daughter’s musical career, would there?”

“Why, yes… how did you know that?” they responded. Enthusiastically, Jodi explained her dinner with me, the night before, and how I had taken a moment to point out the article. And how Jodi, Pat, Jessica and I were close friends, and had also spent Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner together.

Suddenly, the whole meeting took on a new warmth. The next day, Jodi confirmed the wedding entertainment booking with The Blanchards. Anita’s dad even called to speak to Jessica and mention the unusual and wonderful coincidence of our collective connection.

Random connection? Certainly, but it occurred in the process of a rapport building conversation with a prospect.

Is your antenna up? Or are you functioning in an isolated world?

Awareness creates opportunity…
